Princess Buttercup

We have something exciting at our house and in my classroom!

With the winter break coming to an end, kids were excited to come back to class and see their friends.  What the kindergarten class of Mrs. English’s did not know was that upon their return they were going to be greeted by their newest friend Princess Buttercup.  Over the break Princess Buttercup who is a Russian tortoise was purchased with the help of a grant provided by Pets In The Classroom.  An organization that gives funding for classroom pets to help further the education of children.  With the addition of Princess Buttercup the kids will be given several unique opportunities.  The kids in Mrs. English’s class will have an opportunity to take Princess Buttercup (a plastic turtle not the real one) home with them and then write about their adventures and then compile a book of the many adventures that Princess Buttercup has had.  This will help the class develop their reading and writing skills.  They will also engage with her in several science and life lessons such as how to properly take care of pets, discuss different habitats and feeding habits of other creatures, and why different animals are important and need to be treated with respect.  Everyone at Pickett is excited about the newest addition to our community and we look forward to the many adventures that we will have together.

New Year = Excitement

So this year we have much to be excited about!

Dave has a new job and is starting to get his office painted actually as you read this (if it is July 25).  He hasn't been doing his job that he got quite yet but will be as soon as he goes for his training.

Chloe will be starting speech with Grace's old speech teacher.  She is excited and hopefully pick up on things quickly as her sister has (and her when we practiced with Grace).  She is now starting to stop herself of saying me...!

Grace starts kindergarten this year!  She is super excited and can't wait.  She asks regularly how many more days :)  it's hard to believe she is going to be coming with me to school.  She's not our little baby anymore!

I am excited to say I finally have my classroom almost set up and will be taking pictures tomorrow.  I will post a blog with a short something with them.  I took the prairie lands writing project this summer and have learned so much I can't wait to show others and try myself.  The summer has gone by with a flash of an eye.

I can't wait to see what other things come to our family!

Busy Fun Times

Well, lots has been going on that I thought I'd be better at sharing them!  I'm excited to say that Dave finally got a job in town and will be starting soon (March 20th).  He is excited because he will be still working with the kids and families as a family specialist!  I'm excited cause the girls and I will be spending time with him that we haven't been lately with all the long hours he has been working.
Some more news is that two of the paras and now good friends have a teaching contracts.  It's a wonderful feeling to see others have something they've worked hard on to finally get it!
Chloe had her screening and did great except for her speech.  She will be getting tested to see if she will receive some speech.  She came out smiling from all her testing because "she was a big girl!"
Grace is loving preschool and the kids in her class, along with her teachers.  I love how she is now actually working with me to learn more letters and numbers!  She actually knows all her letters and most of the sounds.  This makes a kindergarten teacher and mommy very proud!
Well, school is going well.  Getting conferences ready and those jitters before them is coming on strong.  I love how most of them have grown so much and continue to grow!
So much to go and do that not much more I can think of right now to share but know there is more.  SO on to playing with the girls.
